Transfer to Active Planning Teams

180-701

Description: The concept of ‘Core Teams’ has been employed by the FRP to facilitate the uptake of project results into active forest management plans and to increase the teams’ comfort levels with new software or applications by including them in the development process. These teams include representatives from FRP partner organizations (MNR, CFS, and Tembec) as well as local consultants and contractors who work together to learn about and integrate FRP project results in their decision support systems. This project is intended to facilitate the transfer of all management planning-related project results to FMPs.  However the current thrust is to educate teams and implement the Patchworks Spatial Model in current plans.

This project also relies heavily on the MNR’s Forest Management and Policy Branches to provide advice and expertise on forest management planning policies and the integration of new science, research results, and decision support tools, into the planning requirements. The objectives of this project are:

  • To transfer spatial modeling expertise/knowledge to planning teams for use in active forest management plans, and:
  • To develop procedures and best practices for creating inputs to the Patchworks program such as succession rules, and yield curves.
  • To develop methodologies and software enhancements that better integrate Patchworks into the FMP process and help to identify gaps in information and policy needs.
  • Conduct spatial modelling investigations
